The Dhahran Techno-Valley is a major undertaking that was initiated by King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals during the year 2006. It is envisioned to be Middle East’s most prestigious, industrial research and development (R&D) and technology nucleus. DTV also provides development, production, and marketing support services for innovation that originates from academic research, but under business environment. On Thu, 1 March 2011 Siemens Energy has today announced the founding of a specialist facility to be based in the King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM) in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, one of the leading research and teaching institutions in the Middle East. The centre will provide collaborative R&D support for energy related topics, knowledge-sharing, as well as training for local students and for the Kingdom at large.

DHAHRAN, Saudi Arabia,  An agreement for the establishment of a new centre for General Electric (GE) in Dhahran-Techno Valley "DTV" was signed in 11 January 2011 at KFUPM. "The signing of this agreement represents a new step towards strengthening the company's position in the Kingdom," said President & CEO, General Electric Co. Dr.John Rice "The Company will employ more than 150 researchers and experts in this new centre." The new centre will focus on a number of the company's most important activities related to the development and application of new technology in energy, oil, gas and water desalination. "This step marks the beginning of further expansion in the company's activities in the region in collaboration with KFUPM and Saudi Aramco," he added. "The Company will effectively utilize and get maximum benefits from the centre to further the development of new technology, provide technical solutions as well as training support."
