General Policies and Guidelines

The university expects faculty members to interact with the outside community, offering the community professional services related to their academic specialty and expertise. The interaction, however, should be consistent with the full time employment of faculty members and must not affect their obligations with the University.

CONFLICT OF COMMITMENT AND INTEREST

Interaction activities with outside community must not interfere with teaching and research responsibilities or with any time commitments to the University. No more than two consultancies are allowed at the same time interaction activities must not purport to take precedence over prior obligations to the University, including obligations associated with intellectual property arising before, during or after the activities. A faculty member involved in outside activities is not allowed to involve the students whom he is advising or supervising in the activities.

USE OF UNIVERSITY FACILITIES

Professional activities need to be conducted without the use of University resources, including laboratories, equipment, letterheads or other facilities. Any use of such University resources should be clearly approved by the appropriate department's chairman. A cost for the University facilities will be incurred, in addition to the wage of lab technicians.

 LIABILITY AND INSURANCE

The faculty member (not the University) is responsible for assuming any risk of legal liability from outside activity, and he should consider personal insurance for such liability, if required. The client shall hold harmless KFUPM from and against any and all loss, expense, damage, claim, demand, judgment, fine ,charge, lien, liability, action, cause of action or proceedings of any kind whatsoever arising directly or indirectly  from the services provided by the faculty member.
